Conditionally invites Armenia and Azerbaijan to join with a monitoring procedure from now until 17 January 2001

Strasbourg, 09/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has managed to reach agreement over a special procedure to enable Armenia and Azerbaijan to join the pan-European fold (currently made up of 41 states). In adopting two resolutions, it has invited the two countries to join but has accompanied its invitation with conditions that are to be met as soon as possible.
