Italian decision to suspend marketing of four types of genetically modified maize remains in force, while awaiting "EU strategy"

Brussels, 20/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - The relevant EU regulatory committee did not approve the European Commission's project of annulling the Italian decision of suspending the marketing of four types of genetically modified maize. The Commission then decided to withdraw its proposal and agreed to situate the issue in the EU's overall strategy over genetically modified organisms (GMOs), as proposed by commissioners David Byrne (health and consumer protection) and Margot Wallstrom...
