10/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - During the informal meeting of NATO defence ministers in Birmingham, on Tuesday, US Secretary for Defence William Cohen affirmed that the Atlantic Alliance and the European Union must, in future, be able to treat defence matter on an equal footing. It is clear that NATO will no longer be the only multilateral organisation with a role to play in crisis management, including military crises, which could affect European security, he said.
