Court of Justice ruling on tobacco advertising gives rise to many conflicting reactions - National legislation remains valid

Brussels, 09/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - The cancellation by the Court of Justice of the 1998 Directive on banning tobacco advertising and the sponsoring of tobacco products (see EUROPE of 6 October, p.8) has no effect on the Member State legislation in this connection. National provisions in several Member States, which had already taken measures to ban tobacco advertising (like France and Finland), will remain in application, and the Member States that so wish are authorised to adopt similar...
