Opening of first session of Joint Parliamentary Assembly

Brussels, 09/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - The first session of the new "ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly", opened with a formal session marked by the arrival of five new countries (Cook Islands, Marshall Islands, Nauro, Niue, Palau) in the ACP Group which now has 76 members. Micronesia has still to formally sign the Cotonou Agreement and should be joining the Assembly at the beginning of next year.
