BSCH - BANCO SANTANDER CENTRAL HISPANO has agreed to pay $340 million for an 85% stake in BANCO DE CARACAS. The operation will take the form of a public takeover bid by BANCO DE VENEZUELA, that the Spanish group has its under its control, at $0.57 a share. The merger of the two entities will make of the new group Venezuela's number one, with 2.1 million customers, 7,500 staff, close to 400 branches and $4.4 bn in assets.
