26/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission proposed rigorous measures so as that the fight against Euro counterfeiting is effective. The regulation that will be submitted to the Council will notably impose: a) mutual assistance and information exchanges between national and European authorities concerned, b) the obligatory withdrawal of counterfeit currency from circulation by banks and bureau de change, c) the creation of a "fight against counterfeiting" service within Europol, with the task of helping in the uncovering of counterfeiting networks.
