Americans must modify law on broadcasting of music in public areas, so as to recognise royalties

Brussels/Geneva, 20/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - A World Trade Organisation (WTO) arbitration panel established the illegality of the American legislative provisions on royalties contested by the European Union. The report, closing 13 months of deliberations, thus confirms the interim verdict made last April, which invalidates most of section 110 (5) of the 1976 law as amended by the 1998 legislation on equity in music, except for a "home exception" conceded to small traders who listen to music...
