Reacting to Dover tragedy, Mr. Vitorino calls for policy based on fight against illegal immigration, controls on access to EU territory, a partnership with countries of origin and asylum system "departing from fantasy of zero immigration"

Brussels, 20/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs, Antonio Vitorino, reacted to the Dover tragedy by calling for the EU to have a coherent and global immigration policy, based on the results of the Tampere summit. The conclusions of Tampere must be implemented, by moving from words to actions. Below in the full text of his declaration:
