Brussels, 20/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - Within the framework of the annual conference of Europe's regional public television stations, the European Commission awarded two prizes of EUR 5,000 each to "cross border" TV programmes. Entitled "Les handicapés exilés en Belgique", one of the prizewinning subjects, broadcast in the Euro 3 magazine in collaboration with a Belgian channel (RTBF Charleroi), French channel (TV3, Nord Pas-de-Calais/Picardie) and British channel (Meridian TV, Kent) concerns the despatch of handicapped persons by the French authorities to host homes in Belgium. The second, "The Laggan Story", diffused by the Irish Gaelic-language channel TG4, concerning children from the Irish Republic used for child labour in farms in the Laggan Valley, in Northern Ireland, during the 1930s.
