David Byrne welcomes vote in Bundesrat lifting German embargo

Brussels, 17/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - "The German Laender have listened to our arguments and understood them. British beef is only exported under strict safety conditions which have been evaluated by scientists who concluded that it was as safe as any other beef in Europe". It is with these words that David Byrne, European Commissioner, welcomed the decision by the German Bundesrat which on Friday voted to lift the embargo on British beef.
