Commission appoints Tom Garvey to head international task force to assess environmental impact of spill

Brussels, 25/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - Irish national Tom Garvey, formerly Deputy Director General at the Directorate General for the Environment and former director of the Phare Programme at the European Commission, is to chair the international task force responsible for assessing the damage caused by cyanide pollution in the Danube region, identifying measures required to remedy the situation and restore the confidence of those living nearby.
