Deadlock in first Parliament/Council conciliation meeting on working hours of junior doctors, workers in the transport business and seafarers

Brussels, 25/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Parliament/Council Conciliation Committee on working hours, whose first meeting was held in Brussels on 24 February, co-chaired by James Provan MEP (British Conservative) and Portuguese Minister of Labour Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues, made no progress in the sensitive issue of junior doctors' working hours.

The Parliamentary delegation said it could agree to a compromise if the Council showed its willingness to come closer to meeting the EP's stance....
