Commission believes no new country (after Macedonia) meets conditions for negotiating new agreement, but stresses progress in Croatia and suggests measures for Montenegro and Albania

Brussels, 02/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission approved a Council communication on the "operational conclusions" to be drawn from developments in countries of South Eastern Europe: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, FRY (Serbia on one hand and Montenegro on the other), Macedonia (FYROM), and Albania. Its conclusion is that this evolution, while positive on the whole, does not yet justify the transition to negotiation from an agreement of stabilisation and association...
