A high-level mission bringing together the ambassadors of 22 European Union Member States in Nepal ended on Tuesday 26 May with a meeting with the new Prime Minister, Balendra Shah. Led by Véronique Lorenzo, the EU ambassador there, the delegation congratulated the government on its sweeping election victory (see EUROPE 13823/30) and reaffirmed its support for economic growth and good governance.
During the mission, the diplomats first met business leaders from the energy, tourism and technology sectors in order to explore investment opportunities for European companies. Discussions were also held with civil society on human rights, press freedom and gender equality. Lastly, a specific component was devoted to promoting Nepal as a tourist destination.
At a press conference on the same day, Ms Lorenzo was optimistic about the development of this partnership. “TeamEurope is ready to work hand-in-hand with Nepal to address challenges like job creation, sustainable growth, and inclusive development for the benefit of our citizens”, she said.
