26/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – Dan Jørgensen, the European Commissioner for Energy, said, on Friday 22 May, that “no mechanism at EU level, such as a price cap, is currently being considered” to respond to the current rise in the cost of electricity, gas and fuels. He was replying to a written question from MEP Aldo Patriciello (Patriots for Europe, Italian), calling on the Commission to “consider extraordinary intervention instruments at European level”, such as the creation of “an extraordinary European fund to help Member States limit the impact of rising prices on households and businesses”. This is “not being considered for the time being”, Dan Jørgensen added. He also recalled the recent presentation of two communications to help Member States cope with rising energy prices, ‘AccelerateEU’, on 22 April (see EUROPE 13854/1) and the ‘Citizens’ Energy Package’, on 10 March (see EUROPE 13825/2).
