29/04/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 29 April, the European Parliament approved by a large majority (616 votes in favour, 24 against, 8 abstentions) the Council of the European Union’s position on its request to amend the European electoral law to allow a pregnant MEP to delegate her vote to another MEP up to three months before the expected date of childbirth and up to six months after the birth of the child (see EUROPE 13830/2). In line with the Council’s position, the European Parliament will have to lay down the general conditions governing this delegation of votes, guaranteeing compliance with the principles of transparency, accountability, traceability, legal certainty and the integrity of the vote. The European Parliament’s Rules of Procedure will have to lay down the practical arrangements for this delegation of votes. See the European Parliament’s recommendation: https://aeur.eu/f/lqr (MB)
