EU extends its EUAM Iraq Mission by six months

22/04/2026 (Agence Europe) – The European Union has decided to extend its Advisory Mission in support of Security Sector Reform in Iraq (EUAM Iraq) by six months, until 31 October 2026, according to a legal act published in the Official Journal of the European Union on Wednesday 22 April. The Mission’s mandate was due to end on 30 April 2026. A strategic review of EUAM Iraq will be presented to the Ambassadors of the Member States meeting within the Political and Security Committee in May 2026. “The financial reference amount to cover the expenditure related to EUAM Iraq for the period from 1 May 2024 to 31 October 2026 shall be EUR 79 078 620,21”, the Council Decision states.
