11/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – Threatened by a massive disinformation campaign relayed on several social networks (see EUROPE 13821/15), Hungary has organised a round table with several online platforms, under the Digital Services Act, to try to ensure the integrity of its national elections. A tall order, given the political climate in Hungary, which saw the current prime minister, Viktor Orbán, share an AI-fuelled disinformation campaign against one of his political opponents. Invited and present at the round table, the European Commission was nevertheless optimistic: “This is a purely voluntary initiative, which the Hungarian authorities have chosen to implement. Any measure taken to ensure that elections remain fair and transparent in Europe is a positive step that we must welcome”, said Thomas Regnier, spokesman for the institution. Hungary’s parliamentary elections will be held on 12 April. (IS)
