Brussels, 23/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 22 January, the European Commission opened a public consultation on a draft delegated regulation establishing methodologies for the certification of carbon removals and emission reductions from carbon farming. The text specifies the quality criteria applicable to a number of practices, including the restoration of peatland by rewetting, tree planting, agroforestry and the management of mineral agricultural soils, including the improved use of fertilisers. These methodologies follow on from the 2024 Regulation establishing a new European certification framework for carbon removals (see EUROPE 13523/22). The feedback period is open until 19 February.
