On Thursday 22 January, the European Board on Agriculture and Food (EBAF) discussed the content of the next EU Livestock Strategy, which the European Commission will present later this year (see EUROPE 13784/10).
The morning session was chaired by European Commissioner for Agriculture Christophe Hansen.
EBAF members discussed priorities they felt the EU Livestock Strategy should address in order to strengthen competitiveness, resilience and environmental sustainability and address territorial diversity. Experts also discussed the role of the post-2027 common agricultural policy (CAP) in achieving this strategy’s expected results.
Ten organisations (two think tanks and eight industry associations) have been invited by the Commission as experts to contribute to the debate on the livestock sector’s future. EBAF members also approved their work programme for 2026. They agreed to organise a discussion, based on members’ contributions, on the status of implementation of the Vision for Agriculture and Food, one year after its adoption by the Commission.
