Brussels, 15/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 15 January, the European Commission disbursed to Egypt a first tranche of loans totalling €1 billion as part of the European Union’s €4 billion macroeconomic assistance package for the period 2025-2027 (see EUROPE 13662/11). It found that the conditions attached to this payment had been met, as the Egyptian authorities had taken the following required measures: - consolidation of a multi-party political system and the rule of law, as well as greater respect for human rights; - implementing reforms in the management of public finances, the operation of the foreign exchange market, the business environment and the management of water and energy. Egypt is due to receive two further tranches of aid, subject to compliance with specific measures. (MB)
