MEP Stefano Bonaccini proposes €419.2 billion for agriculture over period 2028-2034

According to the draft opinion by Stefano Bonaccini (S&D, Italian) on behalf of the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture regarding the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028-2034, funding for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) should amount to €412.9 billion over seven years, compared to €387 billion for the period 2021-2027.

The draft opinion, which is intended for the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets, which is responsible for the substantive issues, will be discussed on 28 January by the Committee on Agriculture, before a vote by the latter, scheduled for 5 March, according to the provisional timetable.

The projected increase for the CAP is therefore around €25.9 billion, or 6.7% compared to the previous period. Stefano Bonaccini is forecasting an annual inflation rate of 2% for the period 2021-2027. He proposes €309.68 billion for direct payments, €103.22 billion for rural development and €6.3 billion for the crisis reserve.

Taking into account the latest adjustments (see EUROPE 13781/4), the Commission has proposed €393.7 billion, so the rapporteur is proposing an additional €25.5 billion.
