Ireland, Austria and Spain call for consideration of possibility of an EU army training mission

In an non-paper obtained by Agence Europe at the end of December, Ireland, Austria and Spain propose that the EU should consider the possibility of creating a non-executive military Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) mission to train and assist the Lebanese army in Lebanon.

In August 2025, the Irish Defence Minister, Simon Harris, announced that his country would propose the creation of such a mission (see EUROPE B13698A4).
