The second meeting of the EU-Singapore Digital Partnership Council was held in Brussels on Monday 1 December.
The aim of these meetings, initiated following the signing of the Digital Partnership in February 2023 (see EUROPE 13113/26), is to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two parties, particularly on the development of artificial intelligence and cyber security.
At a time when the EU is looking for new partners to reduce its dependence on American services and suppliers, the association with Singapore should, on paper, lead to new advances in areas ranging from semi-conductors and data flows to the protection of minors and e-commerce.
To date, the partnership has focused on AI, digital identities, semiconductors, digital transformation and e-skills.
This dialogue between Singapore and the EU is part of the new Digital Strategy presented by the Commission last May, which aims to focus on strategic alliances to boost European competitiveness (see EUROPE 13654/4).
The EU stated, in the strategy, its desire to deepen its relations with Asia, India, South Korea, Taiwan and Canada. (Original version in French by Isalia Stieffatre)
