European Parliament-EU Council agreement on stricter rules for dogs and cats

On Tuesday 25 November, the EU Council and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on the regulation on the welfare and traceability of cats and dogs.

The agreement aims to improve the welfare of cats and dogs that are kept by breeders, selling establishments and shelters, while ensuring fair competition and fighting illegal trade. The European Parliament adopted its position on 19 June (see EUROPE B13663A24).
