25/11/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 25 November, the European Union announced that it was appealing the decision by World Trade Organization (WTO) panelists to challenge its countervailing duty on certain Indonesian steel products (see EUROPE 13722/7). At a meeting the previous day in Geneva, Indonesia said it did not understand the EU’s decision to contest the arbitration, even though the Appellate Body is currently blocked. The rest of the procedure is therefore frozen until further notice. In its appeal request, the EU explained that it tried to convince Jakarta to subscribe to the alternative appeal procedure (‘MPIA’), but had not been successful.
