Brussels, 24/11/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 24 November, the Council of the European Union formally adopted the EU budget for 2026. Total commitments are set at €192.8 billion and total payments at €190.1 billion. €715.7 million has been kept available as a margin under the expenditure ceilings for commitments under the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). This flexibility should enable the EU to deal with emerging crises. “By addressing priorities such as defence, migration, competitiveness and preparedness, this budget enables us to respond in an agreed way to the needs of European citizens”, said Denmark’s Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen on Monday 24 November. The co-legislators’ provisional agreement (see EUROPE 13753/2) will be put to the vote at the European Parliament’s plenary session on Wednesday 26 November. (FS)
