EU Agency for Fundamental Rights launches navigator to provide overview of main human rights protection structures in Europe

On Monday 24 November, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights announced the launch of the ‘Human Rights Structures Navigator’, which provides an overview of the main institutions and structures for the protection of human rights in the EU and candidate countries.

The tool, which covers 27 EU Member States as well as three candidate countries, Albania, North Macedonia and Serbia, lists independent institutions, ombuds institutions, equality bodies, parliamentary committees, relevant ministries and civil society platforms.

Designed for practitioners, European decision-makers, Member States and all stakeholders, it should make it easier to understand and access national protection mechanisms, identify shortcomings in national arrangements, highlight synergies between institutions and point out the risks of fragmentation of protection frameworks.

The Navigator provides access to information on the mandates, legal bases, institutional roles and location of each structure.

These functions are useful for the creation of new organisations and extending the missions of existing ones.
