24/10/25 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday, 23 October, the European Council recognised, in its conclusions, the efforts that the new Lebanese authorities have made to stabilise the economic and security situation in the country. In addition, it supported the government’s plan to institute the State’s monopoly on the possession of weapons. The European Council also reaffirmed that it supports a peaceful, inclusive transition in Syria, “free from harmful foreign interference”. It moreover stressed the importance of protecting the rights of all Syrians as well as transitional justice and reconciliation. According to the conclusions, the European Union will continue, on the one hand, to support Syria on its path to stabilisation and reconstruction and, on the other hand, the Lebanese people.
