61% of respondents said they had given up travelling due to problems with online booking for train trips, according to a survey conducted on behalf of the European Transport & Environment (T&E) think tank on Wednesday 22 October.
T&E wanted to examine the experience of passengers when booking their train trips. Similarly, 42% of participants want access to more travel options and 46% say they want to be able to book all their train journeys on a single platform, while only 10% support the current ticketing system.
The think-tank therefore recommends that all rail operators should be required to allow all platforms to resell their tickets, including all fares and extras, such as bicycle tickets, seat bookings, etc.
It also proposes to require the main ticketing platforms to display all routes in their geographical area, including those of competing rail operators, and to include the climate footprint of the different modes of transport in their search engine.
The European Commission is currently preparing an initiative on ticketing (see EUROPE 13689/24).
