On Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 October in Luxembourg, the EU fisheries ministers will attempt to reach a political agreement on fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea for 2026, covering herring, cod, plaice, sprat and salmon.
The work carried out by BALTFISH, the regional fisheries forum for the Baltic Sea, which meets on Sunday 26 October, will contribute to the EU Council’s discussions (see EUROPE 13732/15).
The proposal maintains the 2025 TACs for central Baltic herring and sprat.
However, several delegations would like to see an increased TAC for central Baltic herring (see EUROPE 13695/9).
The ministers will hold an exchange of views aimed at providing the European Commission with guidance on the EU’s position at the annual meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) from 17 to 24 November in Seville. The European Commission will present a non-paper to the Council working group on 30 October. The ICCAT meeting will address a series of issues: tropical tuna, bluefin tuna, sharks and control measures. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
