EUNAVFOR ASPIDES intervened to help MV MINERVAGRACHT

30/09/2025 (Agence Europe)The European Union maritime security operation to safeguard freedom of navigation in relation to the Red Sea crisis (EUNAVFOR ASPIDES) announced on Tuesday, 30 September, that its naval assets have successfully completed a SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) operation to save the crew of the MV MINERVAGRACHT. The Dutch cargo ship was hit by a projectile in the Gulf of Aden, off the coast of Yemen, on Monday, 29 September. The 19 crew members—hailing from Russia, Ukraine, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines—were rescued and transferred to Djibouti. Two members were injured; one of them was seriously injured and was evacuated by helicopter. As for the ship, it is adrift. Since its launch 19 months ago (see EUROPE 13353/8), EUNAVFOR ASPIDES has looked after more than 1,170 merchant vessels. (CG)
