30/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – In a report entitled ‘The LNG Trap’ (https://aeur.eu/f/iox ), Greenpeace pointed out on Tuesday 30 September that from 2022 to June 2025, France, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands, the four main importers of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG), spent more on this gas (€34.3 billion) than on bilateral support for Ukraine (€21.2 billion). The report also reveals that the Zeebrugge terminal in Belgium imported 3.3 billion cubic metres of Russian gas, “putting it on track to break its 2023 import record of 6.1 billion cubic metres”. Greenpeace also points out that with their ongoing Yamal LNG contracts, Europe-based companies have generated billions in profit tax for the Russian state from 2022 to 2024. These revenues are estimated at $9.5 billion, if Yamal’s LNG exports to Europe and Asia are included. (PLD)
