The ministers who are members of the ‘Alliance for Heavy Industry’ (or for energy-intensive industry) met in Brussels on Tuesday, 30 September, and reiterated their priorities for the coming months. They are advocating that measures be put in place to protect steel production in the EU, to support the decarbonisation of industry, to ensure access to affordable energy, and to promote public procurement of green European industrial products. These demands are largely in line with the trilateral statement made by Germany, France, and Italy that was adopted on the future ‘Industrial Accelerator Act’ the day before (see EUROPE 13719/2). Spanish Minister for Industry Jordi Hereu, who chaired Tuesday’s meeting, demanded that the European Competitiveness Fund contain a clearer component that supports industry. Spain, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Greece, and the Czech Republic are members of the alliance. (LM)
