17/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 17 September, the ambassadors of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper) unanimously granted a mandate to the European Commission to negotiate with the United Kingdom and Canada the participation of these two third countries in military projects supported by the European SAFE instrument see (EUROPE 13708/18). The agreed mandate authorises separate negotiations on two individual agreements on the participation of Canada and the United Kingdom. The Commission has reportedly presented Member States with principles to guide negotiations with third countries based on the characteristics of their defence industry (size, current relationship with the European defence industry, level of competitiveness). South Korea and Turkey have officially expressed their interest in participating in projects supported by the SAFE instrument. (MB)
