15/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – Following its second General Assembly on 1 September, the European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) published its strategic action plan (https://aeur.eu/f/ifa ), detailing the activities planned over the next five years to facilitate the deployment of SMRs in Europe by the early 2030s. The plan includes ten specific actions targeting the main challenges faced, such as market demand for SMRs beyond electricity generation, unlocking financial opportunities and simplifying regulatory frameworks. Created in February 2024, the alliance brings together more than 350 players in the SMR sector. From an operational point of view, the European Commission, Nucleareurope and the Sustainable Nuclear Energy Technology Platform (SNETP) are coordinating the alliance’s efforts. On 1 September, the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, announced the forthcoming launch this year of a stakeholder forum (see EUROPE 13700/8). (PLD)
