15/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – Agence Europe made a misinterpretation on Friday 12 September (see EUROPE 13708/3) regarding the compromise on ‘safe third countries’ submitted by the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU to the Member States of the European Union. Some countries reportedly voiced their discontent when the compromise was first examined on Wednesday 10 September, but they were mainly critical of the very existence of this revision, which relaxes the criterion of an asylum seeker’s connection with a third country from which they do not originate, but to which they could nevertheless be redirected in order to lodge an application for protection. Several countries are said to be against this tool, including Spain. Italy was mistakenly placed in a group of countries unhappy with this tool because it did not go far enough. (SP)
