15/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission has opened two calls for evidence, until 9 October, with a view to possibly revising the 2014 directives on non-automatic weighing instruments (‘NAWID’ directive) and measuring instruments (‘MID’ directive). The first text establishes technical requirements for the design, manufacture and performance of weighing instruments, such as retail scales, industrial scales and weighbridges. The second directive also harmonises design and manufacturing requirements, but for measuring instruments. In both cases, this facilitates the free movement of these products within the internal market. Based on the comments received, the Commission will decide whether or not it is necessary to update the two texts.
