‘REPowerEU’, Danish Presidency of EU Council removes 1 January 2026 date for prohibition of new contracts

In the new draft compromise of the Danish Presidency of the EU Council on the ‘REPowerEU’ Regulation concerning the phasing out of Russian gas contracts by the end of 2027, there is no longer a prohibition on new contracts (concluded after 17 June 2025) from 1 January 2026, as suggested by the European Commission in its legislative proposal (see EUROPE B13661A5).
