On Monday 15 September, the European Commission and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) launched a campaign called #NoBirdFlu in order to raise awareness of avian influenza.
Designed in the run-up to the new migratory season, the initiative aims to encourage farmers and anyone in contact with poultry to improve biosecurity.
The communication kit, available in all EU languages, offers practical advice on how to limit the risk of contamination, particularly on small and medium-sized farms. These simple measures should help to protect animal and human health, ensure food production stability and reduce disruptions to trade.
At the same time, the Commission asked EFSA to analyse the perception of risk by farmers, veterinarians and workers in the sector. The results will help to adapt future campaigns and develop a strengthened European avian influenza preparedness plan by 2026.
The Commission is calling on Member States and stakeholders to widely disseminate these messages in order to curb the spread of the virus.
