In a notice published by the European Commission on Friday 25 July, the European Commission is seeking to help Member States implement an article of the Renewable Energy Directive concerning the sharing of data in relation to electric vehicle batteries.
The European Commission aims to improve transparency to support functionalities such as intelligent, two-way recharging as well as better integrating these batteries into energy systems.
In a table, it sets out the types of data that Member States are invited to specify in their legislation, such as the battery state of charge, the battery state of health and its location.
Once in place, “the system should enable and facilitate new, useful services for electric vehicle owners or users — like apps that offer smarter driving— thanks to access to real time battery data for free”, explained the European Commission in a press release.
