Greens/EFA petition to European Parliament calling for ban on PFAS in Europe reaches 30,000 signatures

The petition launched by the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament in June 2025 calling for a ban on PFAS in Europe has reached over 30,000 signatures.

Despite the fact that the chemical industry “wants to continue business as usual”, the Greens/EFA do not want to give it the opportunity to “continue poisoning our air, drinking water, soil and (...) our bodies forever”. To this end, the political group is calling on the European Commission to ban the use of PFAS in all products in Europe as soon as possible, to oblige chemical companies to pay for the clean-up costs associated with PFAS, and to set “much stricter” standards for PFAS in surface and drinking water.

The petition has been signed by several Greens/EFA MEPs, including Bas Eickhout (Dutch), Jutta Paulus (German), Cristina Guarda (Italian), Vicent Marzá (Spanish), Sara Matthieu (Belgian), Tilly Metz (Luxembourger), Rasmus Nordqvist (Danish), Kira Marie Peter-Hansen (Danish), Vladimir Prebilič (Slovenian), Lena Schilling (Austrian), Madjouline Sbaï (French), Villy Søvndal (Danish) and Marie Toussaint (French).

For the time being, the European Commission intends to limit its proposal for a ban on PFAS to consumer goods, and to submit it during 2026 (see EUROPE 13563/15)(Original version in French by Florent Servia)
