28/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 28 July, the European Commission launched a consultation on the revision of the European framework for assessing chemicals and materials that are ‘Safe and Sustainable by Design’ (SSbD). This framework is part of the EU strategy for sustainability in the field of chemicals, linked to the European Commission’s December 2022 recommendation. The aim is to steer innovation towards safer, more sustainable chemical products and materials, in the interests of users and consumers, and for the benefit of industrial competitiveness. The consultation will serve as a basis for drafting the Commission’s recommendation revising this framework, expected later this year.
