28/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – The EU Council has extended the restrictive measures by one year, until 31 July 2026, in view of the situation in Lebanon. This sanctions regime, imposed in July 2021 (see EUROPE 12773/15), contains no entries. It provides for the possibility of imposing sanctions against persons and entities responsible for undermining democracy or the rule of law in Lebanon. This could include individuals or entities obstructing or undermining the democratic political process, hindering or undermining the implementation of plans to improve accountability and good governance in the public sector or the implementation of essential economic reforms, or committing serious financial misconduct involving public funds and the unauthorised export of capital.
