28/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – Final energy consumption in the EU’s industrial sector amounted to 8,990 petajoules, a fall of 5.3% in 2023 compared to the previous year (9,489 PJ), Eurostat reported on Friday 25 July. Consumption by the industrial sector has fallen steadily, by almost a third since 1990. Electricity (32.6%) and gas (31.3%) accounted for two-thirds of final energy consumption in the EU industrial sector, followed by oil and oil products (11.4%), renewable energies (excluding electricity) and biofuels (11.2%), solid fossil fuels (6%), derived heat (5.3%) and non-renewable waste (2.1%).
