14/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 14 July, the European Commission launched a call for expressions of interest and a public consultation aimed at modernising the ‘GBER’ Regulation (651/2014) declaring certain categories of public aid compatible with the internal market (Articles 107 and 108 of the TFEU Treaty) and therefore exempting them from the obligation of notification by Member States. The aim is to assess whether the rules should be simplified (removal of certain compatibility conditions) and the legislation amended to bring it into line with the EU’s competitiveness and decarbonisation objectives (possible new categories of aid). The most recent legislative revision dates back to March 2023, with the aim of encouraging support measures in key sectors for the transition to a ‘net zero emissions’ economy (see EUROPE 13138/1). By 2023, Member States were implementing, with the ‘GBER’ Regulation, 69% of all non-crisis State aid. Take part in the public consultation until Monday 6 October: https://aeur.eu/f/hv6 (MB)
