01/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Trade, Maroš Šefčovič, took part in the second high-level dialogue on trade between the EU and Turkey in Ankara on Tuesday 1 July, together with the Turkish Trade Minister, Ömer Bolat. They noted the progress made in reducing trade barriers. Of the six trade problems previously identified by the EU, three have been resolved, according to a joint press release. The meeting also provided an opportunity to “explore avenues for greater cooperation” on green transition, trade defence and public procurement. On the subject of the transition, particular attention is being paid to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which will have a major impact on Turkish exports. Finally, the EU and Turkey have agreed to finalise the mutual recognition of the respective programmes of authorised economic operators. These programmes allow customs procedures to be simplified for certain exporters recognised as authorised operators. (LM)
