21/05/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 21 May, the Hungarian Minister for European Affairs, Bóka János, met the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, to discuss the ‘roadmap’ presented by the European Commission on 6 May for the definitive phase-out of Russian fossil fuel imports by 2027. Hungary, like Slovakia, rejected the copy and asked the European Commission to guarantee coverage for potential compensation arising from the implementation of future measures (see EUROPE 13641/28). On social network X, Mr János reiterated his country’s view that the “objectives of EU energy policy must be achieved while respecting the sovereignty and energy security of Member States”. The Commissioner, for his part, simply indicated that the EU was pursuing its desire to ensure energy independence from Russia in a gradual manner. (PLD)
