The economic impact of the vehicle charging sector is already significant. It added €15.3 billion in value to the European economy in 2024, according to the annual report by ChargeUp Europe, which represents the electric vehicle charging industry, on Wednesday 21 May (see EUROPE 13631/16).
This impact comes from electricity sales, equipment and the provision of services. The sector has supported 54,000 jobs to date. By 2035, the sector is expected to be worth €94 billion, creating 130,000 additional jobs across the value chain.
In 2024, 20% of new vehicles registered in Europe were electric, with a total of 11 million electric vehicles on EU roads, and 8.1 million charging points. Projections show that by 2035, 30% of all vehicles in the EU will be electric.
Private charging at home, in the office and in commercial depots is the backbone of the electric vehicle ecosystem, with over 92% of charging stations in the EU. Projections predict 37 million private chargers by 2035.
